Document tree, editor, and shortcuts

Create and organize documents, use editor commands, and learn the essential shortcuts.

Goal

Build a document tree that is easy to navigate, then learn editing, search, moving, and archive operations.

Document tree anatomy

Create and organize

  1. Press Cmd/Ctrl+N to create a document.
  2. Create a child from the document menu to build hierarchy.
  3. Drag documents to change their order or parent.
  4. Rename from the document menu; the title is reflected in the local filename.

Start with a simple structure:

Inbox
Projects
Archive

A focused project can use 00 Overview, 01 Research, 02 Drafts, 03 Decisions, and 99 Archive. Add folders only when content needs a stable category.

Edit content

Type / in the editor to insert headings, lists, tasks, callouts, images, tables, code, Mermaid diagrams, math, and AI rewrite blocks.

After selecting text, use the context menu, the Tab selection actions, or Cmd/Ctrl+K to start an AI rewrite.

After inserting an image, confirm that it renders in the App. Images live in the Space's resource directory, so copy the complete folder when moving a Space.

Find and organize in batches

  • Cmd/Ctrl+P: search by title and open a document.
  • Cmd/Ctrl+F: search inside the current document.
  • Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+P: open the command palette.
  • Select multiple documents to move or archive them together.
  • Use Move to in the document menu to move a document and its children to another Space.

Archive and restore

Archiving removes content from the active tree. Open the archive to restore or permanently delete it. Confirm that important content is backed up before permanent deletion.

Essential shortcuts

  • Cmd/Ctrl+N: create a document;
  • Cmd/Ctrl+S: save;
  • Cmd/Ctrl+L: open or focus Chat;
  • Cmd/Ctrl+,: open Settings.

See Settings → Shortcuts for the complete list. Shortcuts are interpreted according to the current focus.

Completion check

  • A document opens from title search.
  • After dragging, its hierarchy and local directory are correct.
  • A test document can be archived and restored.

Common issues

  • A document is missing: search by title, then check the archive.
  • An image is broken: confirm that the resource file remains in the current Space.
  • A move looks incorrect: refresh the tree and check the target parent or Space.
